Adultery My _ _ _ — It’s Just Plain Illicit Sex
Ok—I’ve had it! I’m turning in my adult card and resigning. Theoretically, a male in this country (USA) becomes an adult when they reach 18 to 20 years of age. For a female it’s less in some states. (Which I don’t understand –But that is a different rant.) Any way back to the topic at hand. I see this morning that the “Adult” Entertainment Industry is holding its convention in Las Vegas this month. I’m tired of everything that is socially repugnant being called “Adult”. I want to make the following points that seem clear to me;
- Adultery isn’t – it’s elicit sex
- Adult Language isn’t – it’s profanity
- Adult Entertainment isn’t – it’s pornography
- Adult Movies aren’t – see above
It seems to me that whenever the media or some off- color business knows something is in bad taste, socially unacceptable or just plain wrong, they label it “Adult” and that makes it OK. Well I’ve been an adult for a long time and I want to say “it ain’t”.
Now I realize that the term “adultery” has been around since some human interpreted some ancient writings into the scriptures that define our many religions. So perhaps the error was in calling persons of supposed mature knowledge and intelligence “adults”. That seems to infer that all of these “adult” activities are somehow acceptable practice. Well I beg to differ!
I believe we could make a much clearer statement to future generations and those that we should be inspiring by example by calling these activities what they are. Having sex or even lusting after a person that is not a spouse is against the rules of almost every moral society. So let’s call it what it is — illicit sex or in the case of lustful demonstrations or advertizing –conspiracy to promote illicit sex.
The same line of thought applies to “Adult” Language. I’ve been a practicing adult for more years than I want to count, but I don’t use the gutter vocabulary that is used in most movies nor do my friends and associates. There are times when a well placed epithet is the only way to describe a circumstance or a situation, but that is often depending on the environment and who is present to hear it. The movie industry is one of the biggest offenders. There are many films that have good plots and great actors, but I can’t get past the language barrier and the funny thing is — everyone else recognizes this fact. Otherwise why the “adult” rating? Just to keep it away from our children because we don’t want them to learn the language? – (Insert adult language here!!) I would think that the better action would be to leave the theater seats empty.
The Adult Entertainment Industry is the biggest misnomer. I see a big highway billboard proclaiming “ Mega Adult Bookstore!” and I get angry. It ain’t my bookstore!!! I see the “The Adult Entertainment Expo” convention and I don’t see anything adult about it. They need to call these atrocities what they are – pornographic. It’s a Porn Store and a convention of the Pornographic Movie Makers of America. Now my first thought was to see if there was any way that I could file a class action law suit on behalf of adults everywhere to stop the wholesale slaughter of our reputation – but there isn’t. So I’m burning my adult card – and declaring myself as something else – not sure what yet – but I don’t want to be an “Adult” anymore.
